Biography

With a collaborative and strengths-based approach, Emily supports clients in reconnecting with their inner resources to foster healing, resilience, and meaningful change. She believes that healing is a shared journey, and that each person already possesses the wisdom and strength needed for growth. By prioritizing the therapeutic relationship, she creates a compassionate and supportive space where clients can explore their experiences and move toward greater well-being.

Emily specializes in working with adults navigating complex trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and attachment wounds, including abandonment trauma. She also provides support for those experiencing anxiety, depression, grief (including pet loss), and life transitions. Additionally, she has a deep understanding of the emotional complexities of caregiving for sick or elderly loved ones, offering guidance to those facing the unique challenges of this role.

Drawing from evidence-based approaches, Emily integrates Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Ego State Therapy, Somatic Practices, and Clinical Hypnosis (hypnotherapy) into her work. Her practice is informed by polyvagal theory, which explores the connection between the nervous system and emotional well-being.

Emily is a Registered Provisional Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists. She holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University, a Master of Science in Psychiatric Science from King’s College London and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queen’s University. In addition to her academic experience Emily has worked in clinical research in mental health, public health, concussions, palliative and cancer care for sixteen years.

While Emily has lived, worked, and traveled to many places, her love of the mountains and the great outdoors inspired her to return home and build her life in Calgary. She is an enthusiastic (if not particularly skilled) hiker, cyclist, paddle-boarder, cross-country skier, and snowboarder, and has recently taken up golf. When she is not in the mountains, she can most likely be found curled up by a fireplace with a good book and a cup of tea, preferably with a cat in her lap and a dog by her side. A lifelong Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra subscriber, she is also a passionate supporter of the Arts.
