Biography

Matt has worked within Calgary’s non profit and health authority sectors in the areas of youth and adult mental health; low self esteem; inter personnel communication; addictions; trauma, abuse, loss and grief; family preservation and re unification.  Of particular interest and practice specialty is resolving adverse childhood experiences and how these influence current functioning.  It is often the old, unfinished business that tends to most dramatically interfere with one’s current inner distress.

Matt is trained and uses trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy; Narrative Therapy; Family Systems and General Problem-Solving approaches to help with understanding and resolution of negative thought, feeling and behavior patterns that stem from pained current and historical experiences.

Matt has lived in Calgary since 1990.  He completed each of his Social Work degrees at the University of Calgary and has been an active member of his community for many years. In addition to his work and volunteer experiences, Matt was a stay at home father to his three sons and continues an active role in their lives. Matt enjoys reading, movies, camping, bike rides and gym work outs along with spending time with his extended family.
